Beginning Jan. 1, 2008 SNWA offers property owners $1.50 per square foot of grass removed and replaced with a water-efficient landscape through the Water Smart Landscapes rebate program, the rebate will have no cap on square footage.
Every square foot of grass replaced with water-smart trees, shrubs and flowers saves an average of 55 gallons of water per year, so you'll also save money on your monthly water bill.

If you upgrade 250 square feet of grass, you will save approximately 13,750 gallons of water each year. That will save you about $ 48 each year on your water bill. That's 137,500 gallons of water and $ 477 over the next 10 years. Without the upgrade, you will use about 19,750 gallons of water each year. That's 197,500 of water over the next 10 years. That will cost you about $ 69 a year or $ 686 over 10 years.
If you upgrade 500 square feet of grass, you will save approximately 27,500 gallons of water each year. That will save you about $ 95 each year on your water bill. That's 275,000 gallons of water and $ 955 over the next 10 years. Without the upgrade, you will use about 39,500 gallons of water each year. That's 395,000 of water over the next 10 years. That will cost you about $ 137 a year or $ 1,372 over 10 years.
If you upgrade 1,000 square feet of grass, you will save approximately 55,000 gallons of water each year. That will save you about $ 191 each year on your water bill. That's 550,000 gallons of water and $ 1,910 over the next 10 years. Without the upgrade, you will use about 79,000 gallons of water each year. That's 790,000 of water over the next 10 years.
